I can’t think of a better puzzle to post about on International Puzzle Day. Today’s feature is a lovely Springbok Puzzle from 1969 found on a recent thrift trip to Dartmouth at the beginning of the month.

Oh, that old Springbok logo is a treasure to find! These puzzles are golden, the pieces are gorgeous, that may sound silly to someone who doesn’t puzzle, but I have to say…. It’s true!
They have a rich red cardboard backing, a glossy and smooth finish, and the fit is perfect, and I mean perfect. I don’t know if I’ve just found some very well taken care of vintage Springbok puzzles or if these puzzles stand the test of time. I’m sure it’s the latter, they seem very well made, with quality control and attention to the details.

Sadly this copy is missing three pieces but it’s absolutely fine with me. It’s gorgeous and I thoroughly enjoyed the chance to handle these pieces.

Am I a huge fan of horse jumping? No? It’s just not on my radar at all. The closest sport that I’ve seen is horse racing, we used to go to Hastings Park in East Vancouver for an afternoon of races, sun and snacks.

The artwork is by an artist named Sam Savitt, it’s from a time when many of these images were created specifically for Springbok at the time. A puzzle with custom artwork.
Happy International Puzzle day to all the puzzlers out there, I hope that you get a bit of time to put some pieces of cardboard together!
