Pixel Perfect – A Computer Generated Jigsaw Puzzle Design

We have another long sought after Unicorn, friends. It’s Pixel Perfect!

1988, computer technology is taking off, and Springbok is jumping aboard with a computer generated image for a puzzle design. And what an image!

I wonder how exactly this was made, did they create a prompt like one can do today? Having the computer generate this on its own?

Either way, I have loved this puzzle for a long time, the colours, the repetition, the pixelation. There is so much to love here, it’s quite honestly perfect down to every last pixel.

I picked this up sometime last year and had been saving it for a time when I could really immerse myself into the puzzling. I knew that this was going to take a little longer and that it was going to be an attention grabber.

From the moment I laid everything right side up, I knew I was going to love this! There are a few puzzles that just grab my attention and it’s hard to pull myself away.

We’ve had a string of tough weather here, and there have been some snow days, so this was the perfect time to immerse myself in this artistic triumph.

And the end result, is a pinkish, masterpiece of a puzzle, that is complete, in brand new condition, and will hold a special spot in my puzzle collection. She truly is a beauty and both the cats agree!

This is 1000 pieces, from Springbok in 1988 and it is complete. Thank you Halifax thrift stores and puzzlers that keep their vintage puzzles in wonderful shape, I am so grateful!

  1. Gorgeous! This one is on my wishlist for sure. It kind of reminds me of the “Puzzle In Puzzle” series by Areaware. Those puzzles combine photographs and each one has a smaller puzzle that fits inside of the larger one. That’s what the center of Pixel Perfect reminds me of.

What a find. And really great condition, too. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Hi Matthew, thanks so much for leaving a comment! I know exactly the Areaware puzzles you’re talking about, I believe the artist they feature is Kang Hee Kim, I have completed one of them before, the bricks, not one of the colourful ones, but it was still a unique puzzling experience. Thanks again for commenting and hopefully you’ll come across a copy of Pixel Perfect too! (I certainly never expected to find it)
