With Spring kicking off this week, there was a bird themed puzzle along with our Instagram chat group last week. It was called the “For the Birds” puzzle along.

Surprisingly, I didn’t have all that many puzzles that fit the theme this time around. I say surprisingly, because I am partial to a bird in a puzzle as evidenced by these choice puzzles: Refridgeraiders, Owl Magic, and another White Mountain Classic Woodpeckers.

Once again, we found ourselves at the thrift store and what should I come across but a White Mountain 1000 piece puzzle from 2003 called Birds of the Backyard.
Also, I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but these puzzle alongs happen about once a month, and almost every single time, I seem to go thrifting the weekend before the puzzle along. And almost every single time, I find a puzzle that’s perfectly on theme for the event!

I really enjoyed this image, it was a great mix of some intuitive and simple assembly and then some trickier parts. I took the day off on Thursday last week and just worked on this puzzle. It was wonderful!

This is definitely a popular backyard!
Since we’ve moved here, Joe has gotten pretty into birdwatching, he’s found some really good books and a pair of binoculars at the thrift store. Outside our window, we see a lot of the usual – Chickadees, crows, pigeons, and seagulls but we’ve also seen blue jays, and cardinals! They’re so pretty, especially those cardinals.
Even though we have a ways to go until it’s warmer here, spring is definitely in the air. There’s so much birdsong in the mornings now, it’s pretty amazing!

Birds of the Backyard was released by White Mountain Puzzles 21 years ago and this copy is complete.
