Foxfire

If you’ve spent any amount of time here at thepuzzlesivedone, you have no doubt noticed that I don’t puzzle many fantasy themed puzzles. I have done two unicorn puzzles, but in all honesty, I picked the first one up at the thrift store to potentially send to our friend’s daughter. It ended up being incomplete, and the second was a vintage Springbok, so I definitely wasn’t going to pass on that opportunity.

This vintage puzzle with fairies, flying unicorns, and tree sprits just drew me in. This is the most unique fantasy puzzle I’ve ever come across, it’s absolutely gorgeous. It was the colour palette and the tree that drew me in, but once I started really looking at everything up close, I was hooked.

This is a 1983 puzzle release by the American Publishing Corporation and I haven’t found too much information on it. I thought that maybe it was based off of a fantasy novel, or maybe a movie?

I’m putting a call out to folks out there, maybe you know something about this puzzle or a story that this is based on.

Look at this wild tree ghoul and the little demon or gremlin that lives in the tree house, how wacky and interesting it is!

I did learn that there is a kind of fungus that glows because of bioluminescence called Foxfire, so maybe the artist was inspired by glowing forests and magical feeling places. It’s a possibility.

I really enjoyed this puzzle, again for the colour combination of the greens and purples, it such a great combo. The colour saturation was so vibrant, I was so impressed, especially considering the age of this puzzle!

I still don’t gravitate to the fantasy puzzles, but this one is a major exception in my opinion. I don’t have any problem with fantasy themes, I just usually don’t gravitate to them. I’m sure you all know that I love puzzles with animals, or nature, and of course…. Kitsch!

This beauty is 500 pieces and complete.
