Peanuts…Peanuts…Peanuts!!!

There is another tried and true vintage puzzle brand out there, called Eaton. I’ve done some of their puzzles before, but never actually blogged about them before.

They were making puzzles around the same time as Springbok in the 70s and 80s, and their image curation was quite similar to Springbok as well.

In fact, there were a lot of similarities: their boxes were about the same size, they had a random cut to their pieces, more random than Springbok, mind you. The pieces were backed with green cardboard and they are thick and sturdy.

I do find this pretty interesting, I don’t know if it was an exact copy, but they come pretty close. It makes me wonder if they were competitors or had a good relationship. They even made minis, just like Springbok!

Either way, this is another quality brand for vintage puzzles. They just don’t seem as common here in Canada. I’ve come across the odd one, in my years of thrifting, but compared to the amount of Springboks I will find, they are more rare, here.

Considering this, the fact that I found this in a thrift store of a small town in Cape Breton for 2 dollars is even more special!

We were in Chetticamp, Cape Breton this past January and we saw they had a thrift store. Pretty unique considering that Chetticamp is about three to four blocks in their centre, after that, you will find houses and cottages scattered around the area making up the town.

This is a weird image, for sure. It’s also quite brown dominant, which I wouldn’t often go for, but I had a surprisingly fun time assembling this.

I think:it was due to the random cut of the pieces, it was a really good challenge to try and visualize what exactly I was looking for. Really not bad for a 2 dollar puzzle!

This is over 500 pieces, complete, and from 1980. If I’m ever back in Chetticamp, I will definitely check out their thrift store again.
