Today’s puzzle post is very special for a few reasons. I’m participating in my first travelling puzzle, which is exactly what it sounds like. This puzzle started off with a local puzzler, and he passed it on to me to put together. I will then send it over to the next puzzler on the list, and so on and so on.

The next very special thing about this puzzle, is that it is a high end wooden puzzle by a company called Stumpcraft. They make some preeeety nice wooden puzzles, and apart from something like this, I likely wouldn’t have had the chance to try them out.

These pieces are so cool! The colour saturation was absolutely gorgeous, it highlighted the image so well, which I’m going to get to in just a moment. They are nice thick wooden pieces, that had such neat little details, gorgeous curlicues, and little foot, hand, and heart connectors. These tied into some of the specialty pieces.

And finally, the third special feature about this puzzle is that it is the perfect showcase for Darlene Kulig’s amazing art style! The subject of this piece is PEI, or Prince Edward Island, in the Maritimes! Hey, that’s close to where I live.

Her artwork makes for some really good puzzles, her colour highlights and separation always creates the depth and dimension in the landscapes she paints. Her work actually reminds me a lot of Ted Harrison, do you remember his work? I recall it from the nineties and maybe some books I read?

I found it! He lived in the Yukon, and illustrated a Robert Service poem called “The Cremation of Sam McGee”.
Anyway, back to the puzz.

I had a lot of fun with this, Joe went out one night to volunteer at the Jazz Festival and I put this together. It didn’t take very long, maybe about an hour and ten minutes? I didn’t really time myself, I just wanted to puzzle it!

I loved this little wavy person, my absolute favourite!
I am about to reach out to the next person on the list and I can pop it in the mail for this puzzle to bring joy to others, while dreaming of beach walks in PEI.
