What a triumph! I found an “Official Competition Puzzle” by the American Publishing Corp or APC. This puzzle seems to be rare, I can’t find any information about it online. I’ve only found a post about it on Worthpoint, but that seems to be the only place it can be easily spotted.

Joke intended!

It says on the box that the best time with this puzzle was 2 hours and 39 minutes! I can’t wrap my head around that, I worked on this for about four days. I certainly didn’t puzzle straight through, but I definitely worked on it more than three hours total.

I don’t really care about how long I worked on a puzzle, just whether or not I enjoyed it. And I really enjoyed this, it was challenging but so engaging! It was a “just one more piece” kind of puzzle and the final result is so striking. I was very happy to see that my copy of this was complete and in amazing shape.

There were a lot of pieces that didn’t interlock as you can see, and there were a lot of false edges to throw the puzzler off. There are whole other hard borders inside the puzzle. I tried to go edge first but that made it quite a challenge, nearly every piece looked like an edge piece!

That’s basically what made it so challenging, the fact that I didn’t really have an edge for half the time, and that most of the pieces just rested against each other rather than interlocked.
But again, this was so fun! I know that there is a zebra one that is 500 pieces, maybe someday I spot that one in the wild.

1000 pieces, complete, from the late 1980s. I picked this up at the Mission Mart in Halifax earlier this year.
