Piggelmee en het Tovervisje

Part two of my magical Dutch Coffee marketing puzzle find.

The story of Piggelmee was written by a Dutch writer named Lambertus Cornelis Steenhuizen (Sept 7, 1860 – Nov 16, 1926). He is best known as the author of several books with Piggelmee as the main character.

Steenhuizen wrote quite a few advertising booklets about Piggelmee for the Van Nelle company. The first story was called “Van het enchantvischje” and was based on the story “Van de Visser and his wife” by the Brothers Grimm. It was released in 1920 and was an instant success!

This puzzle image is based off of a story about our friend Piggelmee coming across a magical fish. I’m not sure what happens in the story, but I’m going to imagine that the fish can grant wishes that maybe end up having consequences to each wish, and that our friend Piggelmee learns a valuable lesson about greed or something like that.

Call it a hunch, but what European kids story would be complete without some sort of life lesson or cautionary tale?

These puzzles are so special and unique. The quality was only so-so but I just love what they represent!
