Eestimma Piltkaart

Remember my Piggelmee puzzles from a couple weeks ago? Well those were found on a thrifting adventure in New Minas, Nova Scotia. That’s about an hour’s drive away from Halifax.

On the same day trip, I also found this Estonian made puzzle, of a map of Estonia! 2 puzzles from the Netherlands and 1 from Estonia. I thought that this was really neat, so I did pick it up. The box was sort of a sturdy thinnish cardboard envelope, with a cardboard piece inside that has a frame and you have to build the puzzle within the frame.

These are not a new invention, they’re called frame tray puzzles and do tend to be a pretty popular format for kids puzzles. Remember Aladdin from the summer?

I just thought that this was so neat! I’ve never really looked at Estonia on the map, so now I could, and I always love when there are little educational bits in a map puzzle. They showcased some landmarks, and of course, animals that lived there, that was my favourite detail for sure.

This looks to be a modern puzzle, there is a QR code on the jacket, so it’s definitely from the 2000s. It was also missing a piece which was too bad, but I had a nice evening putting this map of Estonia together! I learned a little bit about their geography and local wildlife.

I wonder how this puzzle ended up in a small Nova Scotian town? Was it a souvenir? Or maybe a gift sent to Canada from Europe.

There’s even a little crossword on the back of the jacket, which I did not do because naturally I couldn’t read the language.

216 pieces, a unique find and has since been re-donated. maybe someone from Estonia picked it up and puzzled it!
