What a ride this puzzle was! I have had this puzzle in my stash for nearly a year, maybe even more than a year. I did procrastinate assembling it, because I was sure that it was going to be a little tricky, and sometimes, tricky is just not what I’m in the mood for.

This is a vintage Ravensburger, from 2000, and it’s from an old line they had called the Star Line. Star line puzzles glow in the dark, and I’m sure you know how much I love a glow in the dark puzzle.

I’ve been really trying to pay attention to my the puzzles that have been waiting for a while and just commit to their difficulty, so I decided it was time.

This was a tricky puzzle, but not actually for the reasons you’d expect! The pieces were strangely discoloured! The blues did not match, but the pieces were a sure fit. I thought that this was maybe due to a printing error, or maybe the glow in the dark paint caused this to print unevenly. I was so perplexed!

You can really see how off the colours are in the dark sky bits, what I found strange was that it was piece by piece that was so off in colour, how could that be a printing error. It’s not like puzzle manufacturers print each piece individually.

And then, when I was putting the puzzle away, I noticed the inside of the box. It’s faint, but hopefully you can see the piece outlines in the cardboard. I think that someone before me that owned this puzzle, had the pieces laid out in the box top and sitting in a sunny place for a long time. Like maybe months. The pieces were bleached from the sun and that’s why the colours were off making it such a confusing one to put together!

The puzzle glowed pretty well, it kind of resembled moonlight hitting the water, snow and the bears. It was really pretty. It glowed well, but it didn’t last that long, probably because this puzzle is 25 years old! Also, my camera didn’t pick up any of the glow, so take my word that it was cool.

All in all, it was too bad about the weird faded pieces, because I don’t think it would have been as hard as I was thinking it would be!
1000 pieces, from Ravensburger, and missing one piece.
