I’m back! Maybe you noticed that I haven’t posted in a while, maybe you haven’t, that’s ok! Where have I been? I’ve moved 🙂
We’re still in the same city, but we moved to a new place, it’s more our speed, with it being an older place, filled with little quirky details that you can only find in a place that has existed for decades, at this point.

What does all of this have to do with E.T., you may ask? Well, nothing! I just wanted to give a reason for my absence, I’ve missed posting and I’ve definitely missed puzzling. I’m not exactly set up just yet for puzzling but hopefully within the next week I’ll be able to crack into a puzzle. Even if just a small one.

Anyway, let’s get to this gem! I completed this puzzle back in early February, before we moved, and I loved it so much! It is a springbok puzzle from 1982, and it’s just that perfect era of springbok.

The pieces fit together perfectly, they’re not too snug a fit that you find yourself jamming every piece in, and not too loose that the puzzle doesn’t feel very strong when you finish up a section. Just absolutely perfect fit.

Whoever had owned this previous to me, had taken very good care of this as well. There was no visible wear to the paper on the pieces, the paper was still shiny, it didn’t have a weird musty smell, it was in great condition.

I found this puzzle quite a while ago, maybe even close to a year ago at the Mission Mart in Halifax, I saw that E.T. text on the side of the box at the very bottom of the pile of puzzles and nearly flipped. It’s just one of those Springboks that I never expected to find at the thrift store. These ones are so rare and coveted online amongst collectors of both puzzles and E.T. merch, or 80s nostalgia types, that finding one at the thrift store just never really seemed like a possibility to me.

Let alone one that was complete and in such great condition as this one. I am very pleased with this find. I held off assembling this, because of a few reasons. Firstly I was worried it wasn’t going to be very fun or a little too difficult, just because of the brown dominance. Well, that was silly, while there was a lot of brown, it was more peach in tone and didn’t feel like a brown 80s nightmare.
I also feel that doing a 1000 piece springbok puzzle is a commitment, because they’re so large, but I really do have to stop delaying them for that reason, they’re not impossibly large, and I do have a decent sized foam board to assemble them on, so that is a silly reason not to do a great puzzle.

And lastly, I was just really excited to have found this, and I would have been a little sad if it was in rough shape or incomplete, so I guess I just didn’t want to find out right away. I wanted to admire it with that excitement that I had for a little while longer.
Now, I know it’s complete, I know that it was super fun and in great shape, and I love it even more! This puzzle is 1000 pieces from springbok and was released in 1982.
