Sunset Ski

I have a very not on theme puzzle for today, I say that because this puzzle depicts a wintery scene of someone skiing the slopes on a Winter evening. With Spring starting to really pop in Halifax, trees, flowers and warmer temperatures, it feels a bit late to show off this puzzle.

It’s called Sunset Ski and it’s released by a BC company called Villager Puzzles. I found this unopened at the thrift store, and having heard very good things about this brand, I thought this was the perfect opportunity to try them out. Still factory sealed and everything!

The image isn’t normally what I look for, it’s a very minimal style, which really appeals to a lot of puzzlers, but I find it a bit bland to assemble as a puzzle, I think the pastel hues contribute to that as well. But again, this is a newer brand and I don’t find these in the thrift stores, so I wanted to jump on it while I could.

Many people on Instagram have mentioned that the quality is really nice, and I have to agree! The pieces were matte so I didn’t have to deal with glare, the fit was sure and secure, so there wasn’t a lot of question whether I got a wrong piece or anything. My only issue, is I generally am not excited by the chosen artwork. That might sound like I don’t like this image, that’s not the case, I just don’t get excited to assemble it as a puzzle. It’s a little too simple, and it makes the puzzle too easy.

This artwork actually reminded me a bit of Ski Quebec by Andrew’s Blaine from the vintage Canadiana line of puzzles they made back in 2017. I feel like that was a bit more interesting to me, just the vintage style, the text, and more saturated colours.

I do love that Villager is woman owned, based in Canada and she chooses to showcase Canadian artists. I like that a lot, and now I know that the quality is wonderful – so if I do see one that I love the artwork or I think it would make a nice present for someone, I will definitely pick it up 🙂

500 pieces and complete. I sold this on Marketplace to someone who LOVES Villager puzzles, so there you go!
