So, when I stumbled across this adorable children’s puzzle of a little gnome household, I thought this might just be an artist’s creation with no back story. But in searching for this puzzle online, I learned about David the Gnome!
David el Gnomo was a Spanish animated series based off of a Dutch authors book called the Secret Book of Gnomes. According to the book and series, gnomes are a kind species, that stand 15 cm tall and can weigh up to 300 grams. Their life span is exactly 400 years with the exception of one gnome from the Balkans that lived 550 years.
At the end of their life span they transform into large trees, these gnomes are dedicated to protecting the forest and the environment because the trees are literally their ancestors and future selves! I am in love with this story, what a beautiful way to teach children to love nature and the environment!

His little gnome wife, Lisa! Lisa knits, I can’t tell you how much I adore these sweet little characters. I actually found a set of three of the David the Gnome puzzles, from Milton Bradley’s Fantasy Series. And obviously I did pick up the other two, they’re all adorable but of course as a knitter I had to assemble this little one!
