Cuddly Companions

We have another Teddy Bear puzzle! Behold! Cuddly Companions from Springbok puzzles in 1978.

Just the sweetest, most late 1970’s collection of stuffies to ever possibly exist. A lot of them even look homemade, I’m not exactly sure if that is the case, but the quilting aspect to a lot of these little companions certainly have a homemade feel to me.

I love this forest green toad, or frog guy, velour and corduroy, looking a little stuffed and strung out. I think that he just might be my favourite!

I also love these older Springbok puzzles that are square but come together in a circular piece cut in the centre. Remember Midnight from last autumn? That had a similar piece cut, that one was from 1977, just one year earlier than this quilty, teddy bear dream.

Here’s a fun fact: I have done this puzzle before, a long, long time ago! I had found it in a thrift store, it was boxed up in a bread bag in an old Telus modem box. I bought it before I really knew anything about Springbok puzzles, I was just totally intrigued at what it could be. I remember really enjoying putting it together and just giggling at the goofiness of this puzzle. I passed it on to my Oma and then told her she could pass it on to someone as I was finished with it.

Naturally, later on, once I learned more about Springbok and reacquainted myself with this image, I felt a bit annoyed that I had given this away, but then again I didn’t have the original box. With this fabulous drawing and story on the back.

Thankfully, I found another copy, with the box and all of it’s pieces at another thrift store here in Halifax! Reunited!

Here’s a photo of one of my favourite cuddly companions!
