Artist Janet Cleland drew this interpretation of the National jigsaw puzzle contest in Athens, Ohio. When the whistle blows, the puzzle boxes are turned over and emptied. The first team to yell “jigsaw” are crowned as the world’s fastest puzzlers! This Springbok dates back to 1983, 1000 pieces and complete.
When I was a kid, I was convinced that puzzling would one day be an Olympic event. So I trained. I timed myself, completed puzzles upside down, etc.
I love to thrift, finding treasures that people have thrown away. The challenge and the quiet time focusing on assembling jigsaw puzzle pieces into a final image has interested and excited me for as long as I can remember. A few years ago I noticed that thrift stores always have a fully stocked "puzzles and games" section. Finally an endless supply of new puzzles to solve and a reason to keep thrifting!
