In 2010, I decided to head to Germany for a year and immerse myself in the culture, work on learning the language better, and most importantly, take time off work and decompress. I didn’t improve my German very much but I had a wonderful year!
I saved up a bunch of money, took my cat Chester to my Oma’s place, sold most of my stuff and flew to Germany. I visited a bunch of towns and cities that I had always wanted to visit, then did a dance workshop in Vienna and settled in Berlin, one my favourite places to be.

You may be wondering why I’m talking about this right now.
Well, I went thrift shopping a few times while I was in Berlin and actually found a few puzzles that were manufactured in the DDR or the German Democratic Republic as it’s know in English. Eastern German made puzzles, in other words!

This is not one of those puzzles, it’s a Tuco, my favourite! But this puzzle reminds me so much of one of the puzzles I had found in Berlin, it was of a bunch of german men windsurfing, in their 1970s Polyester outfits, many of which were speedo bathing suits and mustard colour turtleneck sweaters!

This is just a little 100 piecer by Tuco, but man oh man, the quality never ceases to amaze me. The pieces are so much like a wooden puzzle, it’s just such a special puzzling experience.

It was missing a piece along the edge, but I still had a lovely time putting this together. I reminisced about my year in Germany, assembled a fabulous quality vintage Tuco, it was a good morning!

This little puzz is 100 pieces and missing one, found at Value Village in Halifax.
