When I was little, we had to do our laundry at a Laundromat in the area. A Laundromat that had pinball machines, my mum and I would go together, play some pinball, read books, and generally just hang out until our laundry was finished.

I thought this puzzle looked really cool, it brought me back in time to those days at the Laundromat and I knew that I’d have a lot of fun putting this together.
Ever since I’ve been with Joe, I’ve rekindled my pinballing ways. There’s a really cool arcade in Halifax at a local brewery, called Propeller Brewing.

We’ve gone a few times now, I have also recently discovered Pac Man and am very taken with it! Thankfully we live about a 40 minute walk away from the arcade or I’d spend a lot more loonies there than I currently do!

The whole time that I was putting this together, I couldn’t quite tell if this was a photo or a drawing. When I looked into this puzzle a bit more, it is apparently a photo, I love how it kind of looks like it could be either.
This is a newer Springbok puzzle, by newer, I mean that it’s from the 2000s, 2003 to be exact. The quality is not quite as solid as the ones I know and love from the 60s to 90s but we won’t hold that against this puzzle.

The fit was great, this wasn’t too much of a challenge and it was complete, which was a fun surprise! I found this at the Mission Mart in Halifax a few months ago and I had a pretty fun time with it. Those little space people graphics, to the shiny metallic ball, that’s a good puzzle image!

Stunning puzzle. I have to admit, I’m a bit envious of all the fabulous puzzles you find thrifting. I’ve popped in and out of our Goodwill quite a few times over the past few months and either there are zero puzzles or just a few puzzles and those few puzzle are ones that have released in the past few years.

Hi @hurrayforpuzzles, I definitely feel very lucky! Vancouver always had some good spots to thrift shop and I was a little worried about moving to Halifax. But they seem to have even more vintage and interesting puzzles at the thrift stores here. Truth be told though… I go to the thrift stores fairly often, it’s one of my favourite activities 🙂

You’ve written before about hoping see certain vintage puzzles on the shelf, like I think your hubby plucked that vintage fish Springbok puzz off the shelf. Are there any not puzzle items you have hoped to see on the shelves and then finally one day you did?

That’s a very good question! A couple times, actually, yeah. I was looking for a vintage chrome breadbox, and one day found exactly what I was picturing! And one other time, I needed the fourth metal canister in a certain colour to complete a set that I had (sugar, flour, coffee, tea) and I found the exact one to complete my set! That rarely happens though and I have a a more set wish list for vintage puzzles.
How about you?

My thrift store wishlist is more for vintage puzzles. Although I wouldn’t say no to a kitschy knick knack or a Pyrex bowl. Although I’ve seen none of those things at my local Goodwill. Or maybe those things (puzzles, knickity knacks, and bowls) just don’t hang around long enough, maybe the regulars scoop them up before I get there! I definitely need to check out another thrift store in my area.
