There is a brand of puzzles out there that a lot of people have spoken very highly of, they’re called Piecework Puzzles. They make a very aesthetic product and I think that’s the main draw. Just take a look at the box.

I mean, if you didn’t know any better, you’d think it was some kind of Coffee Table Book about bikini bums, or baking, or sunsets.
But if you were to inspect it closer, you’d find out that it was a jigsaw puzzle.

All of their puzzles feature a very carefully curated photo, with a nostalgic, vintage feel and some sort of offbeat detail. They always have a quirky or punny name, and again they are packaged in very pretty boxes.

The pieces had a velvety touch to them, which I’ve said before, sort of creeps me out, and paper on the back. I didn’t have any damaged pieces and the soft touch wasn’t as weird as I’ve experienced in some other puzzles.
BUT, and here’s where I get critical, if the devil is in the details, how can you put so much work into the presentation of the puzzle down to the photos, the box, the titles, and end up with a puzzle that had so many misfits? That’s the main product!

I’m pretty forgiving, but after a good number of pieces fitting in the wrong place and looking like they were correct, I really started to get frustrated. This was a fairly easy puzzle, thankfully, but I was not impressed. Especially since I know that these are not cheap puzzles. Having now tried this brand, there is no way that I would pay full price for another.
I found this copy of Buns Out at a garage sale and paid more than I would normally pay for a used puzzle but I was very curious to try the brand. There is just so much hype about them, I don’t get it!

Again, smartly branded and photogenic, but I prefer a puzzle that’s good quality. 1000 pieces and complete.
I did my first PieceWork puzzle recently too. The loose fit was a deal breaker for me — I threw the towel in probably around the halfway point. My puzz was made in the USA and does not have the white paper backing.

False fits are one of the few things that can make me abandon a puzzle.

Agreed, it can be such a bummer 😦
I just can’t understand why a puzzle manufacturer would sacrifice the quality of the puzzle, it’s completely backwards!
