The Garden Inn

Back in January, my parents came from Vancouver for a visit. We managed to visit a fair number of places in the maritimes. We finally made it to PEI, and also to Cape Breton. Things were pretty icy and snowy, but it was nice to see these spots in the winter too.

One day we drove out to Lunenburg and Peggy’s Cove. There is a thrift store that had been wanting to check out in Lunenburg, and it’s always been closed whenever I’ve visited the town. But not this January visit!

It was a pretty great little spot, more like a mix of antiques and thrifty items. I found a puzzle (hence this post) a vintage enamel ware pot, a sweet little framed etching, and a handmade ceramic pin of a whale.

This puzzle is simple but classic, it’s an early 90s Springbok and features the artwork of Bob Schneeberg.

I do find this interesting because the other puzzles that I have personally done that feature his artwork lean more on the collage, embroidery, and beadwork side. Remember Country Cottage and A Merry Old Christmas?

He certainly seems to lean toward the traditional and Americana in his art. This reminds me a lot of Charles Wysocki, or Jane Wooster Scott, or even an Ann Stokey.

Traditional, wholesome, quiet, and simple. Which I want to make clear, I am not judging! These paintings are so nostalgic and can have me dreaming of living in a time and place without technology buzzing about everywhere. Imagine that!

I really enjoy how this painting is both a still life with the table display in the foreground and a landscape image at the same time. The houses behind are buzzing with activity and the gorgeous vases of flowers are so inviting and peaceful.

This puzzle was unfortunately missing one piece, but it made for a fun early morning assemble with a cup of coffee and the boys curled up beside me.

I definitely want to visit that thrift shop in Lunenburg in the future!

This was not a challenge, buuuuuut thank goodness it came with a poster just in case I got stuck!

Ha ha ha! Kidding, of course. It looks like the previous owner stashed a poster from a Buffalo Games puzzle in the box. It’s basically the same image, right?
