Christmas Eve Dilemma

I haven’t done too many puzzles by the New York Puzzle Co. Just a couple of their minis and one other puzzle, years ago – Tag Sale.

I’m always torn, I love their image curation, clearly a strong design team. But honestly, I hate their quality! The pieces are sturdy and strong, which is a good thing, I enjoy the low gloss linen finish, too.

BUT… I can’t stand the dust! There is just so much of it, and this was a used puzzle, it had been done before, you’d assume that much of the dust would have been shook out, but not here, my friends.

I also think that the cut of the pieces doesn’t feel very clean, it looks to me like the cardboard is more of a particle cardboard, so the edges look a bit frayed, hence the dust.

I gave this puzzle chance because I like the picture. That’s the thing, NYPC does draw one in with great magazine covers, vintage styled images, you name it.

I love the aesthetic in this image, and that Santa is trying to figure out how exactly this piano will fit down that chimney. Spoiler, I don’t think it will!

I’m sure that those out there who like puzzles as much as I do will comment on the fact that Springbok has a lot of dust too, and sometimes their cut isn’t very clean either.

To which I would say, true. There is a lot of dust, but it does get knocked out over time, and it’s a bit finer. And yes, the later Springbok era puzzles can be roughly cut, but I don’t often go for the ones from the 2000s which is when that issue really started. Also, I’m just a die hard Springbok fan, so I guess I’m willing to deal with it. Not the most fair argument, I realize that.

A 500 piecer, with a great picture, complete a now rehomed!
