Snowbabies at Play

Do you know what a Snowbaby is??

I guess I could say that I’ve seen these ornaments before, but I never clocked that they were called Snowbabies. They are a creation of Department 56 which is the company that brought us the ever popular Snowy Village displays. So these little porcelain figurines channel snow come to life? Like little baby creatures that live in, or are made of snow? Do we think that’s what the idea is?

Let me tell you that this was much more challenging than I expected! I had to resort to sorting out my pieces by their shape, which I don’t find myself doing very often. I first assembled the fairly obvious sections like the greens, blues, the one dark patch, there is an illuminated little home at the top of the puzzle image too. But after that, I was just looking at a sea of white, grey, and cream coloured pieces. There must have been like 700 pieces like that? OOoof.

I just stared at the pieces for a couple days until I finally decided I should sort. I hate sorting! Ha ha, that’s honestly why I tried to just tough it out, but in the end, I had to.

It was so much better once I sorted out those pieces, which I knew it would be, but that still took a while to admit to myself.

So similar to Critter’s Christmas, these Snowbabies figurines were arranged out to create a little narrative storyline and photographed for the puzzle image. The back of the box, as you can see, has outlined each one and listed it’s title and release date.

So while this was tough, I just love a tough puzzle, so yes I thoroughly enjoyed assembling this. This is a 1000 piece Springbok puzzle from 1995, and yes, it was complete!
