The Seawitch

Somerville Games was the leading name in Canadian puzzle manufacturing for about 30 years, between the 1940s and 1960s for sure. I have found a few over the years, namely this one in a tin, I don’t often pick them up, I do love a vintage puzzle but for some reason these ones are always ones I will pass over. However, this puzzle – The Seawitch – just may be the puzzle that changes my mind on Somerville. Firstly, the box was basically in brand new condition, so I figured that might bode well for the actual puzzle.

Well, it was perfection. There wasn’t a bent piece in sight, and the finish of the puzzle was so smooth, almost soft or waxy, (but not in a creepy way like those newer puzzles with that “soft touch” finish.) I thoroughly enjoyed this, the sky was definitely tough but as you can see, I got it done, so it wasn’t impossible.

I did sell this at the vintage market last month, someone bought it as a present for their friend.

Speaking of the market, I met a couple that loves puzzles too, and they reached out to me to donate a collection of vintage puzzles from the 1940s to 60s manufactured by none other than Somerville Games. So I guess we will be assembling a few more of these in the near future!

The Seawitch is about 460 pieces, complete and it was in near brand new condition!
