Remember back in 2020, “We’re all in this together” was a bit of a slogan or motto? This little Springbok mini comes from 2013, and my guess is this is more a slogan for the climate in this particular context, but this little puzzle speaks volumes.

This pastel-hued round mini puzzle is a Springbok release from 2013. Back in the late 60’s, Springbok released these round mini puzzles called Springbok Thingies in callaboration with an artist named Sandy Miller. They were about 60 pieces, came in little round boxes (similar in fashion to their 500 piece count round puzzles at the time) and they featured amazing psychedelic pop art. Honestly, if you look them up, I dare you not to swoon at that artwork. They are stunning, and they are rare, therefore quite expensive. I would say they are a legacy or heirloom puzzle, that is the only way one of them would ever come into my possession!

My heart did skip a beat when I saw this little guy at the thrift store but I quickly realized this was a contemporary release. However, I still really liked the art, it’s very reminiscent of of the original releases, as a matter of fact, it’s from the same artist – Sandy Miller! I suppose she teamed up with Springbok once again to release some more, I think that she has also released some puzzle Thingies with Liberty wooden puzzles at some point. Apparently, She was very surprised to learn just how coveted these puzzles are amongst collectors, that must have been surreal for her to learn!
So while it’s not an original, I love that I now have a Sandy Miller Puzzle Thingie from Springbok.
