The Cornell Lab of Ornithology – American Goldfinch

This mini New York Puzzle Company puzz of a pair of Goldfinches gathering supplies for a nest was a stocking stuffer from Joe this past Christmas. Joe loves birds and will often buy the bird puzzles for me, see Hautman Brothers Collection – Songbirds as an example. I’ve mentioned before that I really like when he picks out a puzzle for me, I always end up enjoying it more than I’d expect because his choice wouldn’t always be my first choice. But they always end up being really fun, maybe because they’re a little outside of my typical palette.

We had a Goldfinch couple come to visit our backyard last summer, I hope they come back again this year! They are so bright in real life. They came to snack on our sunflower (along with many other birds, of course) so I think we’re going to plant another one this year, bring all the birds to the yard, as they say.

You may notice that I am missing a piece, and yes this was a brand new puzzle! I was kind of bummed at that fact, but that just goes to show that new or second hand puzzles can be missing pieces. It’s not always a guarantee just because it’s factory sealed.

Regardless, these little finches had me daydreaming of our couple coming to visit to have a snack last summer, and that was a nice memory. 100 pieces, missing one, featuring an illustration by Ann-Kathrin Wirth.
