Classic Cookbooks

In 2022, My boss at the time, gifted me a thrifted puzzle, called Classic Paperbacks. The artist was Richard Baker, who painted still life images of books! Paying attention to details like folds in the covers, or tears on corners, showing very well-loved books. I love that idea, I’m sure that most people out there can relate to having a favourite, much loved book, one they maybe read once a year, or every few years.

I didn’t realise this was also a Richard Baker collection when I found and bought this, I just thought this was going to be a really fun puzzle and that it reminded me of the one I’d done a while back.

A lot of people would have a trusty cookbook too! One that has all their favourite recipes, marked pages with any notes or substitutions, broken spines, you name it!

Do you cook from cookbooks? I don’t, but it might be nice to get a baking cookbook someday. I sometimes go to a blog for a recipe, but I don’t often cook with recipes. Joe does, and he makes some really delicious recipe meals. I mostly just cook with whatever is in the fridge or pantry, and I tend to improvise a bit more than Joe.

I’d say that our two different styles balance out well. I think I don’t like that specific recipes require a shopping list, most times. I prefer to have basics on hand and then work from there, improvising if I don’t have the exact ingredient.

This puzzle was super fun, I just really enjoy these type of images, graphic design, typography and grid layout. The puzzle was released by Princeton Architectural Press, another 1000 piecer. I found this at a community yard sale that was held at a church. It was mostly senior vendors, the guy who sold it to me was really nice and shared why he liked the puzzle. Hint, the same reasons why I enjoyed the puzzle!
