Sailboats Reflected

I’ve spoken before on this blog about my year living in Germany without a job and free to do whatever I wished any particular day. Many times, I have mentioned my two DDR-era made puzzles that I found thrifting in East Berlin during that year, and this here puzzle reminds me so much of one of those puzzles!

A Random House Publishing Co. 550 piece puzzle from 1989! It is stunning!

And it is complete! There are pieces of the image that seem to have essentially disintegrated off of the cardboard pieces over time, but I kind of like that aesthetic. Sometimes that would annoy me or maybe make me frown a little. But in this particular instance, I think it almost suits the puzzle and it’s vintage feels.

This almost felt like assembling four different smaller puzzles, there was the sails section, the sky and mountains in the back ground, the people sitting on the grassy areas, and finally the reflections. It was a really fun, meditative puzzle, actually!

I really like these old Random House puzzles, I’ve only ever come across one other in the past, the one of the Navajo Sand Paintings, which I did really enjoy learning about!

I think it’s a pretty special find to have a complete puzzle from this brand now!
