I met a couple at the last Curio Collective Vintage show that I was selling puzzles at, who contacted me after the show with a whole load of vintage puzzles to pass on to me. I assembled one a few months ago – Pike action from Somerville Games. This one is also from Somerville and it features two hunting dogs that seem to have spotted something in the tall grass!

I really liked this puzzle, the cut was a little challenging so it made the actual puzzling just a little more engaging! I also love the colour palette of this picture, the sky and the golden autumnal grass, it’s great composition!

The box art is also amazing! I just love that many of these older Somerville puzzles drew a frame and added so much nice detail and cool text on their boxes. It just makes these puzzles so special.

When I was a little kid, my Oma had a German Shorthair Pointer, his name was Atlas. I don’t remember all that much because I was pretty young, but I do remember walking with Oma and him along the Canal in St. Catherine’s where she lived at the time. I used to spend a bulk of my summers there with family until I was about 9 or 10, I’d say and Oma moved to Vancouver soon after to be closer to us.

This puzzle is definitely old, but I couldn’t say exactly how old it is. It was sadly missing two pieces, but still worth assembling and walking down memory lane with Atlas, the German Shorthair Pointer!
Beautiful puzzle, and such an interesting cut too!
